Today is the tenth day of our 21 day fast. For those of you who missed it we had an amazing time in the presence of God last night at our worship night. Let me encourage you to make every effort to come out next Friday night at 7pm. I promise you that you will be blessed. It is a time of prayer and worship together as we seek the Lord for 2018 individually and as the people of Hope Church. There was a sweet presence of God in the room last night. We had some powerful prayers and prophecies come forth last night and I am looking forward to next Friday. The time is from 7pm to 9pm but the time really flew by. When 9pm came no one wanted to leave. I wish we could have stayed all night and that is something that we will be looking into in the near future. God is good and I am so grateful for all of you who came to spend time in the presence of Almighty God.
This is the second week of our fast and we have focused on God’s love, Jesus as a loving savior, Jesus as the life giver and today I want you to focus on Jesus as the Light of the World. John 8:12 “12 Then Jesus spoke to them again, saying, “I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life.” Jesus is the light. If we are following Him, we will not walk in darkness. That is very encouraging to me. However, many times we find ourselves in dark places and I cannot help but wonder if that’s because maybe I am not following Jesus closely enough? I know I am His child and I am sure of my salvation and I desire to follow Him in every area of my life but sometimes darkness appears. I believe that is because somewhere along the way I let myself slip and stopped following Jesus closely. The pressures of work, life, family etc. can get us to a place where we are out of sync with Jesus and not following Him closely enough.
Just as Jesus is the light we are called to be the light to the world because of Jesus in us. It is hard to be the light of the world or bring light into darkness when we ourselves are walking in darkness. Now I am not saying that I or you are living a sinful life and are not repentant etc. I am just saying that we can have the light but because of situations in our lives the light is dimmed or hidden. It happens to all of us and I believe it is because we have gotten away from the light of the world.
If you light a candle in the room and walk away from it, the further you get away from it the darker the room becomes. You can still see the light, but it does not permeate through the whole room as it does when you are close to it. That is the same way that Jesus’ light works in and through us. If we are in close proximity to His light, the light shines on us and we can see clearly. If we move away from His light, the light in our lives dims and it becomes harder to see.
I challenge you today to check your light. Lights in your vehicle come on to alert you to a problem. If the light never comes on then you are not aware of the problem, all you notice is darkness and unaware that there is an issue. It is the same way in our spiritual lives. Jesus is saying in this verse that if there is no light in your life you will never be aware of issues or problems and therefore you will continue in darkness unaware. The light of Christ has come to shine on you and illuminate to you the areas where darkness has come and set up shop. This is so you can become aware and move closer to His perfect light that casts off all darkness.
Get close to the light of Jesus today and stay there. There is no life outside of His light, only darkness and voids that can never be filled. As you are fasting and praying today focus on His light and check your light and see if you need to reposition yourself closer to Him. There is no light apart from Jesus and you cannot shine light into the darkness of this world if the light in you has gone out or dimmed.
Blessings to Each of You,
